Menzo sighed and uncrossed his arms. “Listen… What’s past is past. People die. Children die. That’s…” Menzo swallowed with slightly more difficulty than he liked. “Life.”

“But that girl! We don’t know what…” Joren exclaimed before wincing at having leaned on his injured arm.

You don’t.” Menzo insisted. “As for me… Let’s just say we have some experience with it in these whereabouts.”

“But we can’t just remain here and do nothing!”

“You can. I’ll…” The archer clenched his teeth then gave in. “…figure something out.”

“Speak to Yavan, he will help, I know it!”

Menzo groaned.

“It’s true! And I’m telling you, he’ll want you to join us.”

Cornered, Menzo pinched the bridge of his nose. “I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”

“Ah,” Joren said, smile slipping from his lips. “Family, I suppose?”

“No,” he admitted reluctantly. “I have no family here.”

Now, a frown adorned the confused young man’s brow. “Then why not?”

“I… have a duty. This village asked me to stay, to help them through the danger.”

“Which is over now, remember?”
